Operational value

Get devices enrolled cleanly before daily management starts.

Enrollment is where endpoint management starts

New devices are easiest to manage when ownership, user context, policies, apps, and security expectations are established early. FileWave supports enrollment and deployment patterns that reduce hand setup and make new devices easier to operate after day one.

Publish shared changes deliberately

FileWave Central’s Update Model publishes pending model changes from all administrators. Review content, targets, and colleagues’ pending work before committing; the confirmation dialog is not a change preview. After publishing, check device results separately—a new model number does not prove installation.

Move existing Apple devices without erasing user data

Eligible organization-owned devices on iOS 26, iPadOS 26, or macOS 26 and later can migrate to FileWave through Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager. Prepare FileWave apps and settings first; previous MDM assignments do not transfer. Shared iPad is excluded. Check the migration requirements before planning a pilot.

Platform enrollment paths

Use the enrollment services each platform was built around.

Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager

Connect Apple’s organization portals to FileWave for Automated Device Enrollment, profile assignment, and Apps and Books content. Continue management through Apple MDM and Declarative Device Management workflows.

Android Enterprise and zero-touch enrollment

Point eligible organization-owned devices from the Android zero-touch portal to FileWave, then approve and deploy Android applications through Managed Google Play.

ChromeOS and Google Admin

Google Admin owns ChromeOS enrollment and policy. FileWave synchronizes Chromebook inventory and organizational-unit information so you can report on Chromebooks alongside other devices. Connecting the two does not enroll a Chromebook or install the optional Inventory Extension. Use the Chromebook setup guide to plan the integration with your Google administrator.

Windows provisioning and enrollment identity

Use Windows provisioning and Autopilot-aligned workflows where appropriate, then associate users during supported enrollment flows through Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Google Workspace, or Keycloak.

Common questions

Common questions about device enrollment.

What is device enrollment in FileWave?

Device enrollment is the process of bringing endpoints under FileWave management so IT can apply policies, deploy content, collect inventory, and support the device through its lifecycle.

Does enrollment only apply to mobile devices?

No. Enrollment and provisioning apply across desktop, mobile, ChromeOS, and other managed endpoint types, with different platform mechanics behind the scenes.

How does FileWave reduce risky setup work?

FileWave helps standardize deployment models, assignments, Smart Groups, updates, and services-backed onboarding so setup becomes repeatable instead of improvised.
