FileWave Filesets
FileWave Filesets deliver apps, settings, scripts, updates, and content with precision.
Filesets are the core FileWave content packages used to distribute what IT needs on managed devices: applications, files, folders, profiles, scripts, documents, updates, and platform-specific payloads.
Operational value
Package repeatable endpoint work into Filesets.
Test updates before wider deployment
Keep the current Fileset revision in production while a small approved device group tests the next one, then move the wider Deployment to the tested revision. Where the Fileset type supports rollback, you can select an earlier revision again. Revision changes reevaluate the whole Fileset and run applicable scripts, so test installation and removal behavior before rollout. See the Fileset revisions guide.
Install prerequisites in the right order
Use Fileset dependencies to install required components before the software that needs them. Associate the dependent Fileset with your devices; FileWave installs its prerequisites first. Test the full chain on a small device group before a wider rollout.
Control without local admin rights
Filesets can be deployed directly by IT or offered as Kiosk items. That lets administrators decide what is mandatory and what users can install themselves, while still keeping control in FileWave.
What FileWave helps with
Fileset workflows FileWave helps manage.
App / Folder Filesets
Package and deliver files or folders to managed devices, including All Users placement patterns on computers.
Script Filesets
Run scripts as root/system through FileWave instead of relying on local user privilege or manual terminal work.
Fileset Magic
Build a Fileset by comparing before-and-after snapshots on a clean system to capture installer changes.
Kiosk content
Make approved applications, documents, profiles, books, or other payloads available for self-service installation.
Common questions
Common questions about Filesets.
What is a FileWave Fileset?
A Fileset is FileWave content that can be associated with devices or users to deliver apps, files, folders, settings, scripts, updates, documents, and other managed payloads.
Can Filesets run scripts?
Yes. Empty Filesets can deploy scripts, and FileWave scripts run as root/system when executed by FileWave, so sudo should not be added inside those scripts.
Why are Filesets different from generic app deployment?
Filesets are FileWave content packages for apps, files, folders, settings, scripts, updates, documents, and other managed payloads. They give IT a repeatable deployment model beyond basic app assignment.
